A Note From Becoming Obsolete

You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.

Becoming Obsolete oil painting Daeu Angert

Becoming Obsolete, 2021. Daeu Angert. Oil on canvas. 48″ x 30″ (121.92cm x 76.2cm). Part of a private collection.

Everything that ever became obsolete
was once useful
and potentially in demand.
Maybe even colorful.
Lively.
Perhaps revered.
For sure, celebrated by someone—
the one who invented it.
Definitely recommended.

Everything that ever became obsolete
was stubborn,
rigid,
and careless with its future.

Everything that ever became obsolete
insisted on maintaining the status quo,
even when it was easier to adapt,
ignoring the obvious signs
that its world was changing
into seafoam green.
Everything that ever became obsolete
doubled down on its ignorance,
to reestablish itself
into the darkness.
Lights out.
