COMMISSIONS
Unlike other artwork
you may have commissioned in the past, engaging with daeuArt for a custom piece
doesn’t begin with a brief, but
with a conversation.
About daeuArt Commissions
To start, we want to make sure we are the right fit, making sure that you, your story, values, and the change that you’re making in the world sparks a kernel of inspiration in Daeu. In other words, during the conversation you become the muse for a new artwork.
So, it’s not a brief or a spec. It’s you that inspires the artist to create a work of art that is both deeply personal to you AND congruent with the artist’s… well, artistry.
To begin, submit a brief application to introduce yourself: a little bit of who you are, what matters to you, and the space where you envision your artwork will live. After submission, every application is thoughtfully reviewed, and we will contact you with further information regarding next steps.
Due to the nature of the work and the time it takes, commissions are limited to 6 per year.
The Process
01
The Conversation
If your application is selected, you’ll have a one-on-one conversation with Daeu focused on you, your experiences, what’s important to you and the atmosphere you hope the artwork will evoke. This is not about giving direction, but about creating space for inspiration. If the dialogue resonates, Daeu will accept the commission.
02
The Creative
Daeu creates the piece guided entirely by her vision, intuition, and artistic language.
There are no sketches or progress updates. The work is revealed only when complete. The result is a one-of-a-kind work of art shaped by your story and true to her practice.
03
The Delivery
Your commissioned piece may be featured in a future daeuArt exhibition.
Select works are showcased in our pop-up shows, offering viewers insight into the stories that inspired them.

FAQ
Why do I need to apply?
The application process ensures a meaningful creative fit. Daeu’s work is deeply personal and intuitive. The application allows both you and the artist to determine whether there’s a genuine alignment before moving forward. This protects the integrity of the work and ensures each commission is created with intention.
Does submitting an application obligate me to buy?
No. Submitting an application creates no obligation to purchase. You’re also not committed after your initial conversation with Daeu.
The only financial commitment occurs when you pay the 10% non-refundable deposit–this happens only after both you and Daeu agree to move forward with the commission.
The remaining 90% is due upon your acceptance of the work. However, if the work doesn’t resonate with you, you can simply walk away, and the artwork remains with the artist.
What happens after I submit my application?
Each application is thoughtfully reviewed. If there’s potential for creative resonance, you’ll be contacted to schedule a conversation. During this dialogue, Daeu listens for the emotional threads and details that would inspire her to create, ensuring the conditions are right for a meaningful work to emerge.
Do I get to choose the colors, subject, or style?
No. This is not a collaborative or directive process. The artwork is entirely guided by Daeu’s vision, intuition, and established visual language rooted in abstraction and symbolism. While you won’t direct any creative choices, your presence, values, and space provide the emotional foundation that shapes the work. The result is a piece that’s both personal to you and authentic to the artist’s practice.
How long does the process take?
From you initial conversation to delivery, the process typically takes 4-6 months. This includes creation time and the necessary drying period before the artwork can be safely shipped.
What size will my artwork be?
The size is determined by Daeu based on your conversation, the dimensions of your space, and what the work calls for. Specific dimensions will be agreed to before creative work starts.
Will my artwork by framed?
Framing is not included, as each collector’s space and preferences differ. We’re happy to recommend trusted framing partners or arrange custom framing for an additional fee upon request.
What is the investment for a commissioned piece?
Commissions begin at $20,000. Payment follows a milestone schedule outlined in the Commissioned Art Contract:
- Initial Deposit – 10% (non-refundable): Due upon acceptance. This secures your place in Daeu’s calendar.
- Final Payment – 90%: Due upon completion, after you’ve had the opportunity to view the finished work. If you choose to move forward, the balance is due before delivery. If not, there is no further obligation–the artwork remains with the artist.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept major credit cards and ACH bank transfers. Payment instructions are provided once your commission is accepted. There is a convenience fee of 3% for using credit cards.
What if I don't like the finished artwork?
Once complete, you’ll have the opportunity to view the piece. If you choose to move forward, the final payment is due before delivery. If you decide not to proceed, there is no further obligation and the artwork remains with Daeu and you part as friends.
Will my commissioned piece be shown publicly?
Select commissioned works may be featured in future daeuArt exhibitions or pop-up shows. If your piece is considered for exhibition, you’ll be notified in advance.
How is the artwork shipped?
Your piece is professionally packaged and shipped with full insurance. Shipping costs are calculated based on your location and provided separately. International shipments may require additional documentation.
Can I view my piece during the creative process?
No. You will not be able to see your piece until the final reveal. Part of the daeuArt commission experience is the element of discovery, this work unfolds privately, making the final reveal all the more special.
How does my commission support the daeuArt Foundation?
A portion of every commission is donated to the daeuArt Foundation, which provides art supplies, musical instruments, and creative resources to children in underserved communities.
